Kigensugi Cedar Tree is estimated to be at least 3000 years old, one of the most ancient trees in Yakusugiland and Yakushima. Its age shows in a dramatic way with gnarled bark, height, width and girth give it a majestic presence. A wide array of living things or epiphytes have attached themselves to the tree, among them: chamaecyparis obtusa, rhododendron, sorbus commixta, ilex crenata, and illicium arisatum.
