33. Bunraku 文楽 is a special type of Japanese puppetry that has developed over a period of twelve centuries. It has long been considered popular entertainment for ordinary people. Bunraku developed araound stories based on the daily lives of merchants in Osaka. These vivid tales, full of the joys and sorrows of daily life, made the shows popular with local townspeople. The puppet masters remain in full view while their assistants disguised in black clothing, lurk in the dark shadows are extra elements that makes the shows so intriguing.
