Godaido Matsushima Bay - Godaido is a Buddhist worship hall Godaimyo had been enshrined and the icon or symbol of Matsushima. The current structure was built in the Momoyama style of architecture by Date Masamune in 1604. On the curved wooden supports of the four walls, carvings of the 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac are arranged facing their corresponding direction. Leading to the temple are small red bridges. Just offshore from Matsushima town, Godaido is a popular spot for viewing Matsushima Bay and has become the icon for one of Japan’s Three Great Sights - Nihon Sankei. Ihas been listed by the Japanese government as an Important Cultural Property.
