74. Oura Cathedral 大浦天主堂 is a Roman Catholic church in Nagasaki. It is also known as the Church of the 26 Japanese Martyrs. It was established by a French missionary and the only western style building declared a national treasure and claims to be the oldest church in Japan. It was dedicated to the Twenty-Six Saints who had been martyred in Nagasaki in the 16th century, where 26 faithful were martyred in 1597. Oura Church has been recognized by the Vatican as a Minor Basilica for its important historical value.
