The Miura Peninsula is in the southeastern part of Kanagawa and protrudes into the sea between Tokyo Bay and Sagami Bay. The peninsula is famousl for its tuna and fishing ports, as well as its beaches. The town of Hayama has long been a celebrated spot, with three public beaches, one adjacent to the Emperor's villa, while the southern part of Miura is known for Japan's first Western-style lighthouse that still watches over ships that come and go out of Tokyo Bay.
