Santa Cruz Church is known to Thais as Wat Kudichin - Santa Cruz Church sits along the banks of the Chao Phraya River. After the fall of Ayutthaya King Taksin ordered the Chinese and Portuguese communities of Ayutthaya to move to Thonburi, where the new capital was being founded. The Portuguese had given military support to King Taksin so in recognition of that, King Taksin gave the Portuguese a plot of land for the building of a catholic church. There have been three different churches built at this site. In 1916 the current Santa Cruz Church was built in a kind of Italian style architecture. Santa Cruz Church is the birthplace of a famous Thai cupcake, the "Khanom Farang Kudichin".
